Written from the perspective of one of His followers. It may be helpful fr you to know that fere is an Old English word for mate, or companion.

"Ballad of the Goodly Fere"

Ha' we lost the goodliest fere o' all
for the priests and the gallows tree?
Aye lover he was of brawny men,
O' ships and the open sea.

When they came we' a host to take Our Man
His smile was good to see,
"First let these go!" quo' our Goodly Fere,
"Or I'll see ye damned," says he.

Aye he sent us out through the crossed high spears
And the scorn of his laugh rang free,
"Why took ye not me when I walked about
Alone in the town?"says he.

Oh we drunk his "Hale" in the good red wine
When we last made company,
No capon priest was the Goodly Fere
But a man o' men was he.

I ha' seen him drive a hundred men
Wi' a bundle o' cords swung free,
That they took the high and holy house
For their pawn and treasury . . .

I ha' seen him cow a thousand men
On the hills o' Galilee,
They whined as he walked out calm between,
Wi' his eyes like the grey o' the sea,

Like the sea that brooks no voyaging
With the winds unleashed and free,
Like the sea that he cowed at Genseret
Wi' twey words spoke' suddenly.

A master of men was the Goodly Fere,
A mate of the wind and sea,
If they think they ha' slain our Goodly Fere
They are fools eternally.

What a man! Merry CHRISTmas!

Tomorrow my family and I are flying to Houston, because I'm GRADUATING on Saturday morning at 9am!!

Praise God!!

Santa Baby

And a Christmas P.J. shot!!

Merry Chrismas!

"You want to essercize with me?"

This is Mandie's new favorite movie:

Mandie will watch this all by herself! She uses little tubs of play dough for her weights, she calls them "tapes".

Today is baking day!! I am meeting my friends later and we are going to bake all day! I'm making Oreo Balls (which does not actually require an oven), but I hear should be quite tasty! I got the recipe from another blog! I'll let you know how they turn out and I'll share the recipe if they are good!

Kristen, aren't you glad you don't have to read about poop any more!

Dec 5, 2008

Not for those with weak stomach's!

This is gross.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Last night Mandie and Matt were taking a bath together. I was reading a book in there while they were playing. I glance over and see that Mandie has stood up and assumed her "poopie position"*.

Mom: "Mandie! Are you POOPING!?!?"
Mandie: "grunt, groan, grunt"
Mom: "Well finish in the pottie!!!!!!" as I scoop her out of the tub, and place her on the pot.

The poop was flying! In the tub, with the baby of course. On the floor. On the potty. And, amazingly, in the potty as well.

How can so much poop come out of such a petite little girl?

The poop was cleaned up, the kids were cleaned, the bath was cleaned, the toys were cleaned. Then it was bed time, which would lead you to believe it was sleep time. Guess again.

I was up every 2 hours for 15-30 minutes per session with alternating kids. Thankfully, my wonderfully amazingly fantastic and HELPFUL hubby took the kids when they woke up so I could get one more hour of sleep.

When I woke up he went straight to work. I started getting the kiddos dressed. Mandie first, then Matthew. Matthew had slept that night in fleece footie P.J.'s. I guess all of our noses are so stopped up that we just can't smell anything, including poopie diapers. Matthew was poopie. Unfortunately his diaper had failed him. One side had come unfastened. Poop had smudged it's way down his leg and into the footie of his P.J.'s.

So gross.

I am the mom. A.K.A. Manager of all things poopie.

*Poopie Position- half way between a stand and a squat. Knees slightly bent. Elbows bent. Fisted hands close to armpits. Neck veins bulging. Face red. Overall disgruntled facial expression.

Spiritual Forces

Last Sunday at church Brian was talking about moving God, and hearing God. What can we do to move God, and what does it take to hear him? One of the best points I thought he made was that a lot of times we believe that God is capable of talking to people . . . OTHER people. Why do we not think we are worthy or able to hear God speak to US?? I am in the middle of reading 'This Present Darkness'. It is opening me up to what could be going on around me at every moment. It has put me on guard.

I guess I don't really know what else to say about this topic, I feel like I am leaving it unfinished. How do you all feel about spiritual forces? Angels and demons? And what does it sound like when God speaks to you?

We Wash You A Merry Christmas!

A few nights ago I was giving Mandie and Matt their evening bath, and I was having trouble getting Mandie to stand up so I could soap her off. I said, "Mandie, stand up so I can wash you . . . stand up, honey . . . Mandie stand up and let me wash you." Apparently the words "wash you" came out of my mouth a lot, and Mandie just pondered on them for a moment, and then she stood up and smiled a HUGE smile and began singing, "we WASH you a Merry Christmas". It was an "A-Ha" moment for her indeed. I didn't correct her, I was too busy laughing and she was too busy singing"

It is officially Christmas time around here. Our tree is up with wrapped packages underneath! Our stockings are hung, we even lit a fire in the fireplace tonight (our first one ever in this house . . . it was a moment for me). And Luke made homemade sugar cookies! I still need to decorate the house in general, but it is certainly feeling very merry around here! LOVE CHRISTMAS!!

Mandie is 2 1/2. She is officially old enough for us to "do" Christmas. I feel such so much responsibility to be in charge of Christmas for my kids. I've never really felt this way before, but I'm really excited about it!

Last weekend my mom and I flew to Dallas for a girls weekend without Mandie to celebrate my Mom's birthday. It was such a wonderful break, but it was so nice to see Mandie's sweet face when I got back. I took Matthew because he's still nursing, but he was great the entire trip (except, of course, at night when he was supposed to be sleeping!) We literally shopped until we DROPPED! We spent like 8 hours total in Allen at the outlet mall there. It was so fun! Even though my mom and I live in the same city, we rarely spend time together just for us. It was awesome to be with her!

I've been doing some subbing at Mandie's school, which is always wonderful! I will sub again on Tuesday in the 1 year old room (can't wait to see ya Hayden!). As far as school goes,I am literally 50 questions (in the form of 3 quizzes) away from graduating!! I have no idea how to be a non-student. I have been a student for 20 years, and (Lord willing of course) it's all about to be over! Who will I be now?? I hope to teach part time at Amarillo College, and just enjoy the fact that there are no due dates looming over my head. I also hope to really develop my friendships, and BE that woman that I always wanted to grow up into!

OK, bedtime!! I WASH you a happy day!

Tag - You're IT!

I guess I'm a blogger nerd, because this is my first time to be tagged. But I was tagged 3 times, so I'll use this post to fulfill all three tags.

Number One from Sara: find the NEAREST book, turn to page 56, find the fifth sentence, and post the next two -5 sentences. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or an intellectual book - pick the NEAREST book. OK, here goes:

From the 'Department of Public Safety: Motorcycle Operator's Manual' (it doesn't have 56 pages, so I used page 46)

"Licensing exams are designed to be scored more objectively. To earn your license, you must pass a knowledge test and an on-cycle skill test. Knowledge test questions are based on information, practices, and ideas from this manual. They require that you know and understand road rules and safe riding practices. "

I tag: Arlene C.

Number two from Jeri:
*Link the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog
*Share 7 random/weird facts about yourself
*tag 7 other people and link to them at the end of your blog
*let each person know they've been tagged by leaving a comment

Seven random/weird facts about me:
1) Praise the Lord, I'm about to graduate (in December)
2) My husband just got a motorcycle (I felt obligated to share this based on the above reading . . . he passed his test with flying colors). He is SO HOT on that thing!
3) I was adopted
4) I found out I had Arthritis when I was 23 years old . . . boo hoo!
5)I am trying to get into swimming. I am about to by a cap and some goggles, I'd LOVE a buddy if any of ya'll have a Town Club membership!
6) I'm always a little scared (and sometimes a lot scared) of the birds at Medi Park when we go to feed the ducks. I was bitten when I was a little girl, so now I'm ready to attack any bird who gets to close to Mandie. I just don't trust those suckers!
7) I am flawed to my core, and I repeat the same mistakes over and over every day, but by God's grace I'm a child of God.

I tag: Amanda Y., Cassie C., Kristen C., Ayvrie D., Keri, Cristina F., and Kerri R.
Number three, also from Jeri: here is the 6th pic from the 6th album in my computer:

It's Luke and Mandie reading a book when she was 7 months old. Good times :)

My man can really grow a beard!

Pumpkin Patch!

The last week and a half has been nuts! I found out last Tuesday that I would be taking my comprehensive final exam for my masters on the following Monday (2 days ago). Needless to say, most of my free time was devoted to that. I'm so very sorry that my poor kid's Halloween picture post had to be delayed on account of my education. They are late; but they are oh so cute! Happy Belated Halloween!

Some of these were taken at the actual Pumpkin Patch, the picture's with orange brick in the background were taken in front of our house.

Note: Mandie was a Unicorn for all pre-Halloween festivities (the Funival, KU trick-or-treating, and Halloween day at the Library). However, on Halloween day she very decidedly informed me that she did not want to wear THAT! So we put on a dress and she was officially a 'Baby Doll' for Halloween. Matt was a bear . . . a blue bear.

Other news: Matthew says "Mama, Mom, Bubba, and Da" (Da=DaDa), he's currently breaking his fourth tooth, and he can crawl . . . backwards. I think he'll be crawling forwards eventually. He can also sit 'criss cross apple sauce' and just scoot across the floor. He's hilarious!

Have you ever

had one of those days where you kind of feel . . . I don't know . . . detached, un-plugged, out of the loop, and maybe even a little lonely.

Thank you Sara Nickson for making me feel A-ttached, plugged IN, IN the loop, and beFRIENDED!

You, and your little pumpkin, are bright spots in my life! I am truly honored to be your friend! And I too am so grateful that our dear Ayvrie has blessed us with her presence here in A-town!

Back in Business

All charged up and ready to talk!!

Oct 16, 2008

Charge It

Here's the story. The charger for my cell phone stays on my night stand, where I keep a glass of water. It seems that the other night some condensation from my water got on the night stand and pulled a current from my charger. This left some green and white powder on the night stand. Point being: the cell phone charger is shot. My cell phone died the day before yesterday, and I can't charge it until a new one come's in the mail. That should happen some time next week.

One the happy side, I have really enjoyed not having a cell phone. It's nice to be out of touch some times. But it will be good to have it back, as well.

As all of my fellow Amarillo-ans know,

The Rain Has Stopped!

The Sun is Shining!

Hip Hip Hooray!!!!!

Yesterday morning I carried Mandie and her Hello Kitty umbrella on one hip, Mandie's diaper bag, Matthew's diaper bag, and my purse on a shoulder, Matthew in his carrier in a hand, and all through the pouring down rain into school. It sounds miserable, but it was kinda fun . . . Mandie and I were cracking up the whole way in.

It has rained and rained day and night for three days straight. I'm grateful to see some rays this morning! I am also grateful for all that rain!!

Have a Happy Day!

Paper Airplanes

I just wrote a post that is no good. So I deleted it, but I'm sick and tired of Furr's being the first post on my blog.

So, friends, here is a Furr's replacement post. It's named Paper Airplanes for no apparent reason.

Oct 2, 2008

Yummmm . . . Furr's . . . Or Maybe Not

I LOVE Furr's.

When I was a little girl, my family would often go to Luby's for meals. Oh, yumm. I loved Luby's. I loved their fruit bowls, and I loved their dinner rolls. I have some very distinct memories that involve Luby's and my Mom-C and Pop-C (They are my grandparents on my Dad's side).

In high school, my love shifted from Luby's to Furr's because I ate their practically once a week with the track team or the cross country team after a race / meet. We had so much fun, and we certainly ate all we could eat . . . and maybe a little more. One time my teammate Lindsey ate 11 rolls with her meal. Those were the good old days.

I still love Furr's today. These days we usually end up ther with either my parents or Luke's parents. It's a good way to spend time together.

the last 4-5 times I have eaten at Furr's, I get a headache later that night. It's not a horrible headache, but it's not fun. Isn't that wierd.

Does anyone else ever get a headache after a Furr's meal??

I sat with Jesus at church this morning . . .

didn't you?

The little boy who sat behind us at church asked his grand mother if Luke was Jesus.

Maybe it's time to trim the beard, babe?

No . . . I like the beard.

You may not be Jesus honey. . . but you're perfect for me!

Mandie's Mouth

Today was a WONDERFUL day! We went to a play date this morning at my new (well, not so new anymore I guess), and dearly loved friend, Avery's house. I told her today that she is my domestic inspiration. Here's why: we tie-dyed shirts orange. Then we drew faces on all the tie-dyed circles so they looked like little jack-o-lanterns! And then we had lunch. I guess to me that is the kind of thing that you say, "Wow, that would be so cool to do". But actually doing it would never cross my mind. She's awesome! We ran out of one dye half way through, so their shirts aren't exactly the same shade of orange, but still lots of fun was had.
That last one is a pic of all of the kids who were at the play date this morning. Matthew is the short guy in the middle. Mandie is practicing her Miss America wave. Ashlyn's in the pink dress towards the left. Paisley and Keyton are on the far left end. And little Sydney is in between. The other two boys were so sweet, they are the sons of one of Avery's friends.

Then, we came home and the baby's took naps. Then, I got to spend some time on the phone with my sweet cuz, Kristen. Then, I made dinner in the blender. That's right, I made tortilla soup in the blender! Just check out the picture! You blend that stuff up, then add meat, corn, and tortilla chips. It works just like the info-mercial would have you believe! And the best part, it was pretty tasty! Luke has already requested it again for next week, that never happens!!

Then, our new fish tank came in the mail. So we put in the rocks and the water, it was all very exciting for Mandie. We went to the fish shop a few days ago and she picked out some pink 'goldfish' for her tank. She can't wait for those little guys! We will add the fish in a few more days, once the water is ready for them.

Then, we put the babes to bed. And then, I met my previously mentioned sweet and dearly loved friend Avery at the gym and we worked out for a while. And now, blogging.

Yeah, good day!

OH! Let me share what came out of Mandie's sweet little mouth today. This happened about half an hour after we read her little Baby Bible. She walked out of her room with her baby doll in her little hand-held shopping basket and said, "Look Mom, my baby like baby Moses!!".

It may be that I find this story so sweet and so adorable and so smart because I brought this child into the world, but I do truly think that it was such a precious moment!

Thank you Lord for good days!

I hope your day was awesome too!

The Kiddo's!

It seems that recently my posts have been rather wordy. So I decided to catch up on some pictures! Be warned, these pictures are really cute.

Blogger is not letting me cut and paste my pictures, so they are not really in any order. But here they are none the less.

As I'm sure most of you were aware, yesterday was national 'talk like a pirate day'. So all the kids were invited to dress up as pirates for story time at the SW branch library. It's kind of hard to tell, but Mandie has a pirate mustache. (The library has story time M-F at 10 am, it's a good activity to do on cold days)

Here is Matthew standing up! Way to go son!! AND, congratulations little boy . . . you got your first tooth in today!!

Here is Matthew sleeping in the sling on my back. I love this picure, I love when he sleeps on me, I love the sling!

This is Ashlyn, Paisley, and Mandie playing at the park. Silly girls!
Here is Matthew at the park watching Mandie swing and playing with her pony.

Here is Mandie swinging at the park and watching Matthew watch her swing.
This is Matthew swinging at the park. He was in a great mood.

This is Mandie wearing one of my dresses from when I was 2. I think she looks like she should be boxed and sold in a toy store. As Granddad Haney would say, "What a Doll!"
Here is Matthew with his 'Cunkle' Clay (really a cousin, but like an uncle). Go Tech!
Here is Mandie shooting the breeze with the guys.
I love this picture because Matthew looks like Godzilla.
Mandie and Paisley swinging away.

The next 2 pictures may be my new favorite pictures of Mandie. She spent a lot of energy getting her Dad's boots on, and then she was trying to open and shut the front door. She fell more than a few times. She was concentrating so hard while she walked in those boots.

Here is Matthew in the baby pool, I love those baby blue's!
Mandie and Matthew goofing off in the baby pool in the backyard.

Here is Matthew having some tummy time. I love his expression. These jammies used to be Luke's when he was a baby. Good job GrandMother's for keeping so many sweet baby clothes from the 80's!!

Fly Lady WHERE!!

My house is a disaster! I finally went to Walmart this morning after two days in a row of eating apple sauce for breakfast ( no cereal!). It's not diry, it's just so messy!! I'm so glad we have food again! Time to go organize!! (Lucky for me, I LOVE to organize!!) Oh the joys of Motherhood!!

It's Nice to Know You

A lot of my blogger buddies are going private with their blogs. Although I totally respect that decision, I am planning on keeping my blog open to all. But I will admit, I am rather curious about who stops by while they are blog browsing. Are we friends . . . family . . . acquaintances? Are you a shameless blog-stalker? How do I know you?

Dedicated to the one I LOVE

Hi Luke,

You are not home. You are in Dallas watching the Rangers beat the Red Socks. You are having fun. You are making wonderful memories. You are being a great son, and a great cousin. You are missed. You are loved. You are appreciated. YOU, are a hunk.

Love, Cassie

So easy to get wrapped up in so many things that don't last.

So easy to put the important things on aside to get the silly things done.

So so difficult to keep an eternal mindset . . . will this matter when I'm in Heaven? The answer is almost always no.

So easy to not really live at all. Not doing the things you love to do. Not talking with the people you should be talking with. Not serving the way you should be serving. Not engaging.

Thank you Father for sending Jesus, that he might give us an example of what it means to REALLY live. Please make me brave, please increase my desire. I love you.

Aug 30, 2008

Yesterday I noticed that there was some water under the fridge. I opened it up and realized that things seemed to be defrosting. I told Luke, he said the door must not be closing all the way. So we made sure the door was shut . . . the problem didn't go away.

Apparently Mandie is now strong enough to open the fridge on her own, and she decided she should just turn the dial to '0'.

Confessions on the Pot

OK, these confessions are not actually ON the pot . . . but they are related to the pot. Two posts down I make a lot of braggadocios (spelling??) statements about Mandie and her potty training achievements. Let me set the record straight that I may not be a stumbling block for any other mommies out there who may be struggling (as I actually am too) with the pot. The following confessions are in no particular order:
#1. Luke and I felt that maybe Mandie was getting too much sugar eating all those suckers for going tee tee on the pot. So we upped the ante and told her that if she tee tee'd on the pot she could put a sticker on the chart, but if she went Poo Poo on the pot THEN she got a SUCKER!!! By getting really excited about it, we hoped that she would go along with it . . . Mandie immediately decided that without a sucker, peeing in the pot really isn't all that exciting . . . even if you still get to sing the "Mandie went tee tee in the Pot-ty!" song.
#2. When Mandie goes tee tee on the pot, she does get really excited and say,"Mommy, I go tee tee in the potty!!" But, she also has announced many times to me: "Mommy, I go tee tee in my diaper!" "Mom, I go tee tee on the floor!" "Mommy, I go tee tee in the tub!" "Mommy, I go tee tee in my panties!" Each of which is immediately followed by, "need, need, need . . . need sucker, Mommy!"
#3. I think Mandie may go to college before she learns to go poo poo in the pot! If she needs to go, and we manage to convince her to try sitting on the pot before it's too late, she simply cries out "I can't I can't!!" with a lot of drama and puppy dog eyes until we all agree that she should go poo poo in a diaper. After going poo poo in a diaper, Mandie is very convinced that she needs to see her poop. I have no idea why, but it's really the only way I can convince her to let me change her diaper, if she gets to see it! I guess I thought that would be a boy thing. Hmmm.
#4. I have not even thought about night training. She wears a diaper every night. I have no idea how you do night training, and I have no idea how long it will be until we are there. Any advice here?

That's enough confessing for one night. I would however like to add that Mandie and her potty training status is ever changing. Some days are great. Some days are diaper days all day long. But everyday must be one day closer to all potty all the time. To all you other sweet Mama-cita's out there on the front lines (a.k.a. the bath mat) hard at work encouraging, inspiring, and applauding your little one and their pottying efforts: I have no advice. I think everyone just does the best they can, and eventually every little girl or guy just gets it! Good luck!!

Babies, Babies Everywhere . . . but not a wink to sleep!

Today was my first day as a sub at kid university! (OK, not really a sub today. I was a babysitter while all the actual teachers had a meeting). Anyway, I was in the nursery with my new friend Sara (who I felt so blessed and inspired by today), and six little babies (including my Matthew and her Sydney). We had mostly smooth sailing, but towards the end a lot of little ones were missing there own Mommy's and their own beds. There was one little one who really didn't get even a wink of sleep all day, she would rock and swing, and happily not nap while she rocked!) It was a fun day full of rocking, bouncing, and baby talk! Mandie stayed in there with me and she did a TERRIFIC job! She would talk to the babies and make them laugh and smile. She found a little baby doll that she nursed, and changed her diaper, and carried all around. Mandie is an enormous blessing in my life. I am so filled by her sweetness, her humor, and her loving and caring spirit! Anyway, it was fun. And when we got home I was SO TIRED! It probably did not help that I have been up since 5 am with my little man! I am really looking forward to spending more time up there and getting to know all of the other Mama's and their little bundles of joy (of all ages)! And what I really want to do is listen and watch and learn the diffierent ways these admirable, loving, Godly women run their families and teach / love on their children, and then pray and pray that being around them makes some of their good stuff rub off on me!!

Aug 21, 2008

Silly faces!

Good news! Mandie now can go #1 on the pot!! #2 is much more comfortable in the diaper. So when she needs to go #2, she says "need, need, need . . . need diaper!". After going #1 in the pot she says, "My go tee-tee, Mommy!! . . . need sucker!" She gets a sucker if she goes in the pot. Here is the sweet girl on the pot:

Here are some fun bathtime pictures (don't worry, the stuff on her face is just fruit smoothie):

These are just some cute pics of my little lady:
I LOVE this last one!
