Spiritual Forces

Last Sunday at church Brian was talking about moving God, and hearing God. What can we do to move God, and what does it take to hear him? One of the best points I thought he made was that a lot of times we believe that God is capable of talking to people . . . OTHER people. Why do we not think we are worthy or able to hear God speak to US?? I am in the middle of reading 'This Present Darkness'. It is opening me up to what could be going on around me at every moment. It has put me on guard.

I guess I don't really know what else to say about this topic, I feel like I am leaving it unfinished. How do you all feel about spiritual forces? Angels and demons? And what does it sound like when God speaks to you?

  1. I feel like God talks to us daily, but sometimes I choose not to listen...which is something I struggle with. I feel that you have to choose to listen to him or not. I think we as humans struggle with listening to God becuase are to busy listening to the world.

    Good thoughts~

  2. We should have a discussion about this topic. I have another book about angels, demons, spirits, etc. Opens your eyes! I agree with Kristen about choosing to listen to God--you know, sometimes I hear Him but I don't stop to listen, then of course that means I probably don't obey--yikes!

  3. Wow - 2 great books in a row - that's awesome! I read that book about 8 years ago and it really changed my perception about spiritual warfare. I absolutely think it is all around us and that is why it is so imperative to pray, and pray hard! As far as talking/listening to God, I'm not sure how to answer. When we think of "hearing" God, we tend to think of that big booming God-voice like we hear in movies. And I think He could come to us like that, but for me it's more like a voice in my head (does that make me sound crazy?!?!). I know that it's God because the wisdom and comfort and yes, even humor, could not possibly be from me! I hear God a lot more when I stop to listen. I mean really stop, turn off the TV, put away the computer, dive into the word, or into prayer, and just listen. But then again, I even hear throughout the day sometimes. And then there are days I don't hardly from Him at all, but that is a different topic all together! Hope that helps!

  4. God AKA the Holy Spirit does talk to us every day. You know that thing that non Christians call their conscience? Well I believe that IS Him! I try to obey it at all cost! Like for example when Morgan was potty training... I would have the impression or thought (what ever you want to call it) take her to the restroom...well I wouldn't and bingo accident. Now you may say does God really care about potty training? ABSOLUTLY!Why did Jesus die? So we could be forgiven, so we can go to heaven, AND so the lines of communication could be open to us as they were with Adam and Eve. No more animal sacrifies where only the priest can talk with God! I also think it is easier to hear Him than trying really hard to be quiet and still. I love what Heather said about humor...I think God wants to be with us on a level that is that close to us, He wants to enjoy life with us! Ok I should have posted my own blog! LOL! Hope this helps Cassie!

  6. Thank ya'll so much for your thoughtful, and thought-provoking, words of wisdom! Heather and Misty, during his sermon my preacher mentioned that when God speaks to him, it just sounds like his own voice . . . so it seems like you two are right on track! And I am so convicted about taking time out to spend with the Lord, and really LISTEN for Him. That is such a struggle, but always the most important part of my day when it happens! Cristina, thank you for the book recommendation!

  7. Great discussion.
I think spiritual warfare is absolutely real and not credited for our struggles enough. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities and powers of darkness"...and all that Ephesians talks about.
Too few people truly seek out hearing the Lord's voice. For me, it sounds like my voice, but I usually hear it clearly and timely.
